As a comprehensive chronic-disease hospital in Taiwan and over development of more than 20 years, Wanhua Hospital has established certain recognition and competitive strength in the region. Driven by external medical environment change and internal personnel development demand, Wanhua Hospital formulated the plan of developing rehabilitation medicine 5 years ago and proposed its core value of “Medicine Prolongs Life, Wanhua Promotes Health”, which has well suited the demand of the era.
Wanhua Hospital is a relatively westernized medical institution boasting tidy environment and well-arranged organization. Through CARF accreditation, the hospital aims at comprehensively integrating international standards into rehabilitation program, establishing standardized rehabilitation workflow, and forming inheritable enterprise management which will further strengthen the hospital competitiveness.
For better preparation of CARF accreditation, Wanhua Hospital invited Shundao to visit for an evaluation. During the three-day visit, Wanhua Hospital presented superior hospital management structure and considerate patient service flow, and vividly reflected its patients’ care and guarantee for health and safety. The highly efficient work mode of the medical team of Wanhua was really impressive.
Through documentation review, employee interview, patient interview, environment inspection and leadership survey, Shundao helped the hospital find fields requiring further improvement. On the site, Shundao answered many questions concerning CARF accreditation preparation; after the visit, Shundao timely issued a complete evaluation report.
Taiwan has included sub-acute care into
health insurance, and clearly defined payment indicators for acute treatment,
sub-acute care and rehabilitation during recovery. We can learn from their
successful experience in medical resource distribution. Based on our research
in Wanhua Hospital, we also found that Taiwan has encountered with huge barrier
for medical reform. The medical insurance policies which have not been changed
over the years have affected the development of hospitals, especially of the
rehabilitation medicine.
